Use the Sync Agent to activate, register and configure the Scanning Tool before use. Activation allows the Scanning Tool to synchronize device settings, download the latest updates, and transfer logs with the Sync Agent.

  1. Open the Sync Agent.
  2. Plug the Scanning Tool in the Sync Agent endpoint.

    If the Sync Agent is not yet open when the Scanning Tool is plugged in, the Sync Agent launches automatically if autorun is enabled.

    The Sync Agent automatically detects the Scanning Tool and performs the following:

    • Activates and registers the Scanning Tool (if not yet registered) with the Sync Agent

    • Applies any policy that targets the Scanning Tool

    Note:

    If you encounter issues activating the Scanning Tool using the Sync Agent, manually activate the Scanning Tool.

  3. On the Sync Agent, go to the Plugged-in Scanning Tools tab.
  4. Select at least one Scanning Tool from the list.
  5. Use the Sync Agent to manage the Scanning Tool.

    Option

    Description

    Change Name

    Click to modify the Scanning Tool name.

    The Scanning Tool name is used to identify the device on the Control Manager server.

    Transfer Logs

    Click to start transferring the logs and quarantined files from the Scanning Tool to the Sync Agent.

    Sync Components and Settings

    Click to update the Scanning Tool with the components and settings of the Sync Agent.

    To update all Scanning Tools, click the checkbox in the Scanning Tool column to select all, and click Sync Components and Settings.

    Note:

    If you encounter issues updating the Scanning Tool using the Sync Agent, update the Scanning Tool manually using the Trend Micro Portable Security 3 Diagnostic Toolkit.

    Update Now

    Click to update the Sync Agent with the components and settings of the Scanning Tool.

    Note:

    This option is only available if the component versions in the Scanning Tool are newer than the Sync Agent.

  6. Remove the Scanning Tool from the Sync Agent endpoint.
