Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) are validation standards developed
by
the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for use in computer
systems by US government agencies and government contractors. Enabling FIPS mode
ensures that ScanMail for
Microsoft Exchange only uses compliant encryption standards.
Procedure
- Click .
- Select Enable FIPS mode and click
Save.Changing FIPS mode settings requires restarting the ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange services. The FIPS mode takes effect after the restart.
Important
The following features are not FIPS compliant. When running in FIPS mode, ScanMail does not prevent you from using the features, but provides a warning if you have enabled these features or try to configure them.-
Communication between the ScanMail MCP agent and Apex Central. To disable the feature, go to Apex Central Settings and deselect Enable the communication between the ScanMail MCP agent and Apex Central.After the feature is disabled, the suspicious objects list from Apex Central is no longer is available. To continue to use the suspicious objects list, you can connect to Deep Discovery Director and enable the list. For details, see Using ScanMail with Deep Discovery Director.
