Configure internal network traffic with the VMware vSphere Standard Switch in promiscuous mode to allow Virtual Network Sensor to monitor data.

Procedure

  1. Turn off your Virtual Network Sensor.
  2. On the VMware vCenter console, click the vmware-vcenter-serve.png tab.
  3. Click the name of your virtual machine.

  4. Go to ConfigureVirtual switchesADD NETWORKING.
  5. On the Add Networking screen, select Virtual Machine Port Group for a Standard Switch and click NEXT.

  6. Select Select an existing standard switch and click NEXT.

  7. Type a name for your Network label, select All (4095) for the VLAN ID, and click NEXT.

  8. Click FINISH.

  9. Click ellipsis-icon.png on your port group and select Edit Settings.

  10. Click Security and then select Override and Accept for promiscuous mode.

  11. Select Reject for MAC address changes and forged transmits and click OK.
  12. Click the name of your Virtual Network Sensor and click edit-settings-icon.png.

  13. On the Edit Settings screen, click Network adapter 2 and select Browse...

  14. Select the port group you created and click OK.

  15. Turn on your Virtual Network Sensor.
