Use this feature to block access to unwanted websites. Trend Micro maintains an extensive database of categorized websites to keep this feature up-to-date as new sites appear on the web.

Description

Filter websites based on your selections below

Enable this setting to make Antivirus for Mac start filtering websites.

Categories

You can choose from 31 filtering categories offered by Antivirus for Mac. A more detailed description of what falls into a given category will appear when you click any item on the list.

Select Filter Strength

You can use this list to select sets of categories to block.

Choose High (Child) to mark the checkbox for every category on the list. Select Medium (Teenager) to block 14 of the 31 categories, or Low (Mature Teenager) to block 9 of the 31 categories. Select Minimal (Adult) to only block websites that would help someone to circumvent proxy servers and web filtering systems, or make Internet activity anonymous or untraceable, including sites that provide tools for those purposes.

Trusted Websites...

Click this button to specify websites that Antivirus for Mac should  never block.

Blocked Websites...

Click this button to specify websites that Antivirus for Mac should  always block.

Note:

The Trusted Websites and Blocked Websites lists can each hold a maximum of 500 addresses. Putting a website on either list will allow or block all pages of that website.

Enabling or Disabling the Website Filter

From the website filter window, you can make Antivirus for Mac block websites based on predefined categories. You can also enter the addresses of specific websites to allow or block.

To start or stop the website filter:

  1. Click the Antivirus for Mac icon near the top right corner of your screen, and then select Open Trend Micro Antivirus...
  2. On the left side of the window that opens, click Web, and then click Website Filter.
  3. Mark or clear the Filter websites based on your selections below checkbox.
  4. If you mark the checkbox, select some categories on the list to block.

Accessing Website Filter Settings

From the website filter window, you can make Antivirus for Mac filter or stop filtering specific categories of websites, allow access to specific websites, or block specific websites.

To open the website filter settings:

  1. Click the Antivirus for Mac icon near the top right corner of your screen, and then select Open Trend Micro Antivirus...
  2. Click Web on the left side of the window that opens.
  3. Click Website Filter at the top of the window.

Approving or Blocking Specific Websites

Antivirus for Mac can control access to specific websites. Antivirus for Mac will never stop you from opening a page on the list of approved websites. It will always prevent you from opening pages on the list of blocked websites.

You can use these lists to name exceptions or additions to the web filtering categories currently selected. For example, if you have blocked "Games" websites but want to make an exception for your home team, just enter the address of their website into the Trusted Websites list.

Putting the address of a website on either list will also make Antivirus for Mac allow or block access to any website that starts with the same characters.

For example, if http://www.xyz.com appears on the list of blocked websites, then Antivirus for Mac will block http://www.xyz.com/pdq.htm as well.

Note:

The Trusted Websites list can hold a maximum of 500 addresses.

To open the Trusted Websites or Blocked Websites lists:

  1. Click the Antivirus for Mac icon near the top right corner of your screen, and then select Open Trend Micro Antivirus...
  2. Click Web on the left side of the window.
  3. Open the appropriate window to trust or block a website:
    • To approve a website, click Trusted Websites... and select Always allow access to the websites listed below.

    • To block a website, click Blocked Websites... and select Block websites on the list below.

  4. Click the + button, type the address of a website you have in mind, and then click Done.

Trusted Websites

If you mark the checkbox at the top of this window, Antivirus for Mac will never prevent you from opening websites that appear on this list, no matter what Web Threat Protection or Website Filter settings you select.

You can edit any address already on the list, or select one and click the minus (-) button to remove it. To add another address, click the plus (+) button and start typing.

Putting a website on the list will allow you to open all pages of that website. For more flexibility, use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard character.

By default, Antivirus for Mac puts the following websites on the list:

  • http://*.trendmicro.com/*

  • http://*.microsoft.com/*

  • http://*.antivirus.com/*

  • http://*.trendmicro-europe.com/*

  • http://*.trendsecure.com/*

  • http://*.intermute.com/*

  • http://*.apple.com/*

Note:

Blocked Websites

If you mark the checkbox at the top of this window, Antivirus for Mac will always prevent you from opening websites that appear on this list, no matter what Web Threat Protection or Website Filter settings you select.
