Smart Protection Source

Smart protection sources download and host smart protection components that endpoints query when scanning files or accessing Web sites. The Smart Protection Server the client connects to depends on the client computer's location.

For reputation scores:

• Internal clients that use either conventional or smart scan connect to Smart Protection Servers and Smart Protection Network.

• External clients that use either conventional or smart scan connect to Smart Protection Network.

For scan queries:

• Internal smart scan clients connect to Smart Protection Server and Smart Protection Network.

• External smart scan clients connect to Smart Protection Network.

For details in configuring location settings, see Computer Location. You can configure clients to use proxy settings when connecting to the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network. For details, see External Proxy.

If you have installed Smart Protection Servers, configure the Smart Protection Server List on the OfficeScan Web console. An internal client picks a server from the list if it needs to query reputation scores. If a client is unable to connect to the first server, it picks another server on the list, and so on.

• Assign a standalone Smart Protection Server as the primary scan source and the integrated server as a backup. This reduces the traffic directed to the computer that hosts the OfficeScan server and integrated server. The standalone server can also process more queries.

To configure the smart protection sources: >>>

• Smart Protection > Smart Protection Source > Internal Clients

1. Select whether clients will use the Standard List or Custom Lists.

2. Click Notify All Clients. OfficeScan clients automatically refer to the list you have configured.
