
System_Tasks
Use the System Tasks screen if you encounter an error message that requires you to roll back the Threat Discovery Appliance update, or if you need to import or export the configuration file, import the HTTPS certificate or restart the product.
Importing and exporting the configuration file is also available from the product console.
Perform the following tasks:
The following tasks can only be performed on the appliance, and not the virtual appliance:
If the update is not compatible with Threat Discovery Appliance, roll back to the previous update.
To roll back to the previous update:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.

Type 1 then press the ENTER key. The Rollback to previous update screen appears.
Rolling back to previous update may require restarting the product.

Select OK and press the ENTER key.
The product rolls back to the previous updates.
This task can only be performed on the appliance, and not the virtual appliance.
If the appliance encounters errors with the current settings, you can restore the configuration and database from a backup file.
Export the current configuration settings before importing the backup configuration file (see Exporting the Configuration File).
To import the backup configuration file:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.
Type 2 then press the ENTER key. The Import configuration file screen appears.
From the HyperTerminal menu, click Transfer > Send File.
The Send File option means sending the file to the appliance before you can import it.

Browse to the configuration file you want to import.

Change the protocol to Kermit and then click Send.
Trend Micro recommends exporting the current configuration settings before importing the backup configuration file.

The appliance imports the configuration file and uses the settings from the file.
This task can only be performed on the appliance, and not the virtual appliance.
Regularly back up the configuration files to ensure that you use the latest configuration settings when importing.
To export the configuration file:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.
Type 3 then press the ENTER key. The Export configuration file screen appears.
From the HyperTerminal menu, click Transfer > Receive File.
The Receive File option means receiving the file from the appliance before exporting.

Change the protocol to Kermit, and then click Receive.

The appliance exports the configuration settings to a .dat file.
Rename the exported configuration files to keep track of the latest configuration files.
This task can only be performed on the appliance, and not the virtual appliance.
You can import the HTTPS certificate to ensure connection to the correct server. Replace the HTTPS Certification from the product console’s HTTPS Certificate screen.
Use the following command to generate a certificate from a Linux operating system:
openssl req -new -x509 -days 365 -nodes -out FILE_NAME.pem -keyout FILE_NAME.pem
To import the HTTPS certificate:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The Import HTTPS certificate screen appears.

From the HyperTerminal menu, click Transfer > Send File.
Browse to the configuration file you want to import.
Change the Protocol to Kermit, then click Send.
Use this feature to perform diagnostic tests of the system and application. This helps determine if there are any software or hardware issues.
To perform the diagnostic test:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.
Type 5 then press the ENTER key. The Diagnostic Test screen appears.
From the HyperTerminal menu, click Transfer > Capture Text.
Browse to the folder and specify the file name for the log.
Click Start.
Under Run diagnostic test now?, navigate to OK and press the ENTER key.
After Threat Discovery Appliance restarts, open the captured log to view the log result.
To restart the appliance, access the Preconfiguration Console using a serial communication application such as HyperTerminal or an SSH utility such as PuTTY. Using PuTTY to access the Preconfiguration Console means you can restart the appliance remotely.
The appliance automatically starts when power is restored after a power failure. This means you do not have to physically turn the appliance back on. However, shutting down the appliance before a power failure means the appliance will not automatically start when power is restored.
To restart the virtual appliance, access the Preconfiguration Console from the VMWare Infrastructure Client console or from the VMWare host Web console.
When Threat Discovery Appliance starts, it checks the integrity of its configuration files. The product console password may reset if the configuration file containing password information is corrupted. If you are unable to log on to the console using your preferred password, log on using the default password admin.
To restart Threat Discovery Appliance:
Log on to the Preconfiguration Console. The Main Menu appears.
Type 4 then press the ENTER key. The System Tasks screen appears.
Type 6 then press the ENTER key. The Reset Device screen appears.
Under Reset Trend Micro Threat Discovery Appliance and keep current configuration, navigate to OK and press the ENTER key.
