Deploying a Deep Discovery Inspector Virtual Appliance

Deploy the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance on VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.

Before you begin, review the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual machine requirements to verify your virtual machine meets the system requirements for your deployment. Trial deployments have lower system requirements than standard deployments.

Tip:

If this is your first time deploying a Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance, Trend Micro recommends performing a trial deployment first to ensure the appliance is able to connect to Network Inventory.

For specific hypervisor requirements, see the latest Deep Discovery Inspector Installation and Deployment Guide located at https://docs.trendmicro.com/en-us/enterprise/deep-discovery-inspector.aspx.

  1. Download the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance image.
    1. In the Trend Vision One console, go to Network Security Operations > Network Inventory > Deep Discovery Inspector Appliances.
    2. Click Connect Appliance.
    3. For Product, select New appliance.
    4. Under Option: Deploy a Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance, read the End User License Agreement and check I agree to the End User License Agreement to accept the agreement.
    5. Click Download Disk Image to download the Deep Discovery Inspector disk image (ISO file).
    Important:
Each disk image is specific to your company. The company-specific disk images have the following configuration already applied:
    • Deep Discovery Inspector Activation Code for licensing

    • Deep Discovery Director token for integration

If Network Inventory is unable to provide a company-specific disk image, a notification appears after you click Download Disk Image. If this occurs, you need to activate Deep Discovery Inspector and connect to Network Inventory manually.

For more information, see Activating a Deep Discovery Inspector License Using the Customer Licensing Portal, and Connecting a Deployed Deep Discovery Inspector Appliance.

    Tip:

Click Copy disk image SHA-256 hash value to use the hash value to verify that the downloaded disk image is authentic.

  2. Create a virtual machine.

Follow the steps in the latest version of the Deep Discovery Inspector Installation and Deployment Guide to create a virtual machine.

    Note:

System requirements are based on bandwidth usage. For best results, use the 1000 Mbps configuration.

Review Deep Discovery Inspector Virtual Appliance System Requirements to verify the hardware requirements for your deployment.

  3. Install the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance.

Follow the steps in the latest version of the Deep Discovery Inspector Installation and Deployment Guide to install the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance on the virtual machine.

    Note:

In the System Information screen, you have the option to skip the system requirements check. For trial deployments, type 3 and press ENTER to skip the system requirements check.

  4. Configure the Deep Discovery Inspector network settings.

Follow the steps in the latest version of the Deep Discovery Inspector Installation and Deployment Guide to access the preconfiguration console and configure settings.

    Tip:

The IP address that you configure on the Device Settings screen is the management console address.

  5. In a supported browser, type the management console IP address in the address bar and press ENTER to access the management console.
  6. Sign in to the console using the default credentials.
    • User name: admin

    • Password: admin

  7. Click Log On.

When signing in for the first time, the Change Password window appears.

  8. Type a new password and click Save.

    The Setup Guide window appears.

  9. Follow the on-screen setup guide to configure Deep Discovery Inspector.
  10. In the Trend Vision One console, go to Network Security Operations > Network Inventory > Deep Discovery Inspector Appliances.
  11. Verify that the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance has connected to Network Inventory.
    Note:

It may take several minutes for the network sensor to appear in Network Inventory. Additionally, when Deep Discovery Inspector is trying to connect to Trend Vision One, a global notification appears in the Deep Discovery Inspector management console.

If your Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance does not connect automatically , then connect the deployed appliance manually.

  12. Configure the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance.

Once the virtual appliance has connected, you can perform the following to further configure and integrate the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance.

    • Integrate Sandbox as a Service.

    • Perform actions from Network Inventory such as enabling the Network Sensor and connecting to a Service Gateway.

    • Click Access to open the Deep Discovery Inspector management console.

See the latest version of the Deep Discovery Inspector Administrator's Guide for details about configuring and administering the Deep Discovery Inspector virtual appliance.
