New in this Release

Trend Micro Security (for Mac) includes the following new features and enhancements:

Feature/Enhancement

Details

Smart Scan

Trend Micro Security (for Mac) uses smart scan to make the scanning process more efficient. This technology works by off-loading a large number of signatures previously stored on the local endpoint to Smart Protection Sources. Using this approach, the system and network impact of the ever-increasing volume of signature updates to endpoint systems is significantly reduced.

For information about smart scan and how to deploy it to agents, see Scan Method Types.

Damage Cleanup Services

Damage Cleanup Services™ cleans computers of file-based and network viruses, and virus and worm remnants (Trojans, viral files) through a fully-automated process. To address the threats and nuisances posed by Trojans, Damage Cleanup Services does the following:

  • Detects and removes live Trojans

  • Kills processes that Trojans create

  • Repairs system files that Trojans modify

  • Deletes files and applications that Trojans drop

Because Damage Cleanup Services runs automatically in the background, it is not necessary to configure it. Users are not even aware when it runs. However, Trend Micro Security (for Mac) may sometimes notify users to restart their endpoints to complete the process of removing a Trojan.

Web reputation blocked list

Web reputation enhancements include the URL blocked list. You can add websites that you consider dangerous to the blocked list. When the Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent detects access to one of these websites on an endpoint, it automatically denies the connection without sending a query to the smart protection sources.

Key Performance Indicator dashboard widget

This version of Trend Micro Security (for Mac) integrates with Control Manager that allows you to customize a score card on the Control Manager dashboard regarding the status of your endpoint environment.

Agent self-protection

The Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent implements the following self-protection features:

  • Prevents the removal or modification of Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent program files and folders

  • Prevents the blocking of Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent processes

Scan monitoring

Trend Micro Security (for Mac) provides more visibility and control over scan features through:

  • Scan Operation logs: Monitor scan time, scan status, and scan results using the web console and the agent console.

  • Security risk log filtering by scan actions on the agent console.

  • Virus/malware count reset for selected agents or agent groups.

External drive scanning

Administrators configure agents to scan network drives or Time Machine drives.

Certified Safe Software Service

The Certified Safe Software Service queries Trend Micro datacenters to verify the safety of a program detected by antivirus scans and reduce the likelihood of false positive detections.

Enhanced agent update and upgrade features

This version of Trend Micro Security (for Mac) includes the following agent update features:

  • Agent automatic update: Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server can deploy updated components to agents when an agent endpoint restarts or when a new component is available on the server.

  • Granular agent update: Option to update components without upgrading the agent program.

Agent migration

Administrators can migrate Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agents to another Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server without having to reinstall Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agents on endpoints.

Agent deployment

This version of Trend Micro Security (for Mac) supports agent deployment using operating system images. When you include the Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent in an operating system image that is deployed to multiple endpoints, the Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent automatically registers to the Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server after installation and starts protecting the endpoints without manual configuration.

Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent interface redesign

The Trend Micro Security (for Mac) agent interface has been redesigned to provide an easier, more streamlined, and more modern experience. All the features available in the previous Trend Micro Security (for Mac) client version are still available in the updated version.

Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server interface enhancement

The top-level menu on the Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server web console has been enhanced to align with the web console menu on OfficeScan to provide a more consistent experience. All the features available in the previous Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server are still available in the updated version.

Browser support

The Trend Micro Security (for Mac) server web console supports the following browsers on supported OS X™ or macOS™ platforms:

  • Chrome

  • Firefox
