Agent Connection Status

The OfficeScan agent connection status depends on the way in which the OfficeScan server communicates with the OfficeScan agent. The following table outlines the different connection statuses available for the OfficeScan agent.

Table 1. Office Agent Connection Status

Status

Description

Online

The OfficeScan agent can connect to the OfficeScan server for bidirectional communication of the following:

  • Policy settings

  • Updates

  • Scan commands

  • Suspicious Object list synchronization

  • Sample submission

  • Log submission

Offline

The OfficeScan agent has no functional connection with the OfficeScan server or an Edge Relay server.

Independent

The OfficeScan agent can connect to the OfficeScan server but communication is limited. While in Independent mode:

  • The OfficeScan agent does not accept policy settings from the server

  • The OfficeScan agent does not initiate scan commands from the server

  • The OfficeScan agent does not send logs to the server

You can configure Independent agents with privileges to allow or block component updates if a functional connection to the OfficeScan server is available.

End users can manually initiate scans and updates on agents in Independent mode.

Off-premises

The OfficeScan agent is outside of the corporate network and cannot connect to the OfficeScan server directly. The OfficeScan agent can, however, connect to an Edge Relay server for the following:

  • Suspicious Object list synchronization

  • Sample submission

  • Log submission
