Trend Micro Toolbar FAQ

The Trend Micro Toolbar does not appear in my browser window, but I do see ratings for links. What happened?

Your browser might hide the Trend Micro Toolbar by default. To show the toolbar, follow these steps:

Showing the toolbar in Safari

  1. Open Safari, click View and then select Customize Toolbar....
  2. From the group of icons that appears, drag the Trend Micro Toolbar Button directly onto Safari’s toolbar.
  3. If you do not see the Trend Micro Toolbar button under Customize Toolbar, but can find it under Preferences > Extensions, try disabling and then enabling the toolbar.

Showing the toolbar in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox, click Tools near the top left corner of your screen, and then select Add-ons.
  2. Click Extensions on the left side of the window that opens.
  3. Locate the Trend Micro Toolbar extension, and click Enable.
  4. Restart Firefox if asked to do that.

Showing the toolbar in Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and type chrome://chrome/extensions/ into the address bar at the top of the window.
  2. Locate the Trend Micro Toolbar and mark the Enable checkbox at the right.

The Trend Micro Toolbar does not rate any links, and does not appear in my browser window. What happened?

You need to enable the Trend Micro Toolbar by following the steps below:

  1. Close the browser completely by pressing the <command> and <Q> keys at the same time.
  2. Open the main console of Trend Micro Titanium.
  3. Click Web on the left side, and then Toolbar at the top.
  4. Enable the Trend Micro Toolbar for the browser that does not show it.
    Note:

    If the toolbar was already enabled, try disabling and then enabling the toolbar again.

  5. Open the browser and make sure that the Trend Micro Toolbar now appears there.

Why do ratings sometimes take a long time to appear?

The time needed to show the ratings depends on the speed of your network connection. On networks with heavy traffic, you might need to wait a few seconds for the ratings to appear.

Why is the toolbar icon showing on the browser, but links are not rated?

Ratings for Web Threat Protection have been disabled. To fix this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Trend Micro browser icon. If the options in the drop-down menu appear disabled, then go to the next step. Otherwise, skip ahead to Step 4.
  2. Open Titanium by clicking the Trend Micro icon at the right side of the menu bar and then select Open Trend Micro Titanium....
  3. In the window that opens, enable Detect Web Threats by clicking the switch.
  4. In the browser icon dropdown menu, select Rate links on web pages.
  5. Refresh the page.

Why do shortened addresses often show “No Response” as the rating?

Titanium will try to check the original address for the actual website, no matter how many “layers” have gone into the shortened address. The more layers, the more time Titanium will need to find the rating, so the request may time out.
