What are Web threats?

• Websites that attempt to transmit hidden viruses, spyware, or similar threats to your computer
• Fraudulent websites that look like legitimate financial or commercial sites can gather personal information (like credit card or Social Security numbers) for identity thieves

How are Web threats detected and handled?

Your security software uses the Smart Protection Network, which assigns a reputation score to a website based on its credibility. The more dangerous a website, the lower its score. When you access a website, your security software checks the site's reputation score and then decides whether or not to block the site based on your Web threat protection settings.
