Folder Shield

Not all versions of Trend Micro security software include this feature.

Your Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac can prevent ransomware from maliciously encrypting your files and holding them hostage until you pay the attacker. Folder Shield adds an extra layer of defense that blocks any program not in the Trusted Program List from accessing files within the protected folder. You do not need to add programs already trusted by Trend Micro to the Trusted Program List.

Using Folder Shield

To start using the feature, click the Folder Shield tab on the main console, then click the Lock icon and provide your password to configure Folder Shield.

If it is not switched ON, click the slider to switch Folder Shield ON. To add folders to the protected folders list, click the + icon and then select the folders you want to protect. Your security software will notify you and block any unknown or suspicious program that tries to open files protected by Folder Shield. If you trust the blocked program, you can add it to the Trusted Program List to allow it to access your protected files.

Trusted Program List

You can use this list to specify programs, not already trusted by Trend Micro, that can access files protected by Folder Shield.

To add programs to the Trusted Program List, click the Logs tab, then select Folder Shield from the Log Type list. All programs blocked by Folder Shield in the selected period will be listed.

Click Unblock after selecting a program to add it to the Trusted Program List.
