Trend Micro provides two different types of Activation Codes:
Evaluation-version Activation Codes
Full-version Activation Codes
Both types of code provide access to complete functionality of the product. However, once an Activation Code expires, the product behaves differently, based on the type of code that was in use.
An Evaluation-version Activation Code allows you to test all aspects of the product and to download the latest engine and pattern files during your evaluation of the product.
However, Evaluation-version Activation Codes have a limited life. Once such a code expires, you cannot reuse it. The expiring code disables any rules or other configuration settings that were created while it was in use. The expiration of one Activation Code does not affect another. For instance, if you are evaluating a product that has separate licensing for spam prevention, expiration of one license does not affect the other.
A Full-version Activation Code, provided with a license to use the product, gives you access to all the functionality of the product and engine and pattern file update files for a set period, which is typically one year. See your product license for more information.
When a Full-version Activation Code expires, you can no longer download engine or pattern file updates. However, unlike an Evaluation-version Activation Code, when a Full-version Activation Code expires, all existing configurations and other settings remain in force. This provision maintains a level of protection in case you accidentally allow your license to expire.
