The Trend Micro Network VirusWall outbreak prevention appliance helps organizations stop network viruses (Internet worms), block high-threat vulnerabilities during outbreaks, and quarantine and clean up infection sources, including unprotected computers, using threat-specific knowledge from Trend Micro deployed at the network layer.
Network VirusWall helps improve network security.
When an Network VirusWall device cannot access the Internet, change the default download source from the Global Trend Micro AU server to HTTP://<Control Manager server IP address>/TVCSdownload/ActiveUpdate.
As of this release, Network VirusWall has two models:
Network VirusWall 1200
Network VirusWall 2500 (version 1.5 [copper ports only] and versions 1.8 and Network VirusWall Enforcer 2500)
See Introducing the Network VirusWall features for an introduction to Network VirusWall, as well as the new features available in Network VirusWall 2500.
Two major components make up a Network VirusWall system:
Unlike security solutions that only monitor threats or provide threat information, Network VirusWall helps organizations take precise outbreak security actions and proactively detect, prevent or contain, and eliminate outbreaks. By deploying Network VirusWall devices in network LAN segments, organizations can significantly reduce their security risk, network downtime, and outbreak management burden.
Network VirusWall provides the following management tools:
Pre-configuration console
The Pre-configuration console allows you to perform the network configuration and set the device settings. After completion of pre-configuration procedures, the Network VirusWall device will register itself as a managed product to the Control Manager server.
LCD + Control Panel = LCD module
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and control panel Network VirusWall front panel elements are collectively referred to as the LCD module. The LCD module allows you to perform the following basic configuration:
View and delete BMC logs
BMC logs refer to Board Management Control logs. These types of log report critical hardware status and error. You will need to use the LCD module to manually purge BMC logs. Refer to the Administrator's Guide for instructions on how to purge BMC logs.
View system information
Use the LCD module to view the Network VirusWall memory and CPU usages, as well as its concurrent activities.
Control Manager management console
The Control Manager management console allows you to administer Network VirusWall managed products remotely. Network VirusWall supports the Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy.
A Control Manager server must be available to manage a Network VirusWall device.
Refer to the comparison table to view the differences between the available management tools.

Network VirusWall monitors network packets and events that could indicate an attack against a network. The device scans all the traffic on a specific network segment. Deploy Network VirusWall on a hub or in a switched environment. Refer to the Network VirusWall Getting Started Guide for deployment guidelines and common deployment scenarios.
