Installing the Control Manager Server without Reinstalling its Agents

The Control Manager server lost connection to its managed products. This happens because the SQL Server crashed and there is no backup of the Control Manager database that can be used to restore the original Control Manager server-agent configuration. Complete the following procedures to reinstall the Control Manager server without reinstalling the Control Manager agents managed by the server.

To reinstall the Control Manager server without having to reinstall the Control Manager agents:

  1. Using Windows Services, check that the SQL Server service is running.

  2. Using Windows Explorer, back up the <root>\Program Files\Trend Micro\CmkeyBackup folder.

The CmkeyBackup folder contains the following files:

These are the Control Manager encryption keys.

  1. Uninstall the original Control Manager server using Start > Programs > Trend Micro Control Manager > Uninstalling Trend Micro Control Manager.

  2. Reboot the server.

  3. Reinstall the Control Manager server. Specify the same IP address and hostname during the installation.

  4. After the installation, use Windows Services to stop the Control Manager services in the following order:

  6. TrendMicro Management Infrastructure

  7. Trend Micro Control Manager

  1. Copy the CmkeyBackup backup file to the <root>\Program Files\Trend Micro\Control Manager folder.

  2. After replacing backup files, use Windows Services to restart the Control Manager services in the following order:

  3. Trend Micro Common CGI

  4. TrendMicro Management Infrastructure

  5. Trend Micro Control Manager

  1. Using Windows Services, stop and restart the Control Manager agent service. This allows the agent to report to the same Control Manager server.

  2. Restart TrendMicro Management Infrastructure for Control Manager 2.x agents

  3. Restart Trend VCS Agent for Trend VCS 1.8x agents
