About ScanMail for Lotus Domino ======================================================================== Trend Micro ScanMail for Lotus Domino works in real-time to prevent viruses/malware, malicious code, and unwanted content from entering your Domino environment through email messages, replication, or infected documents. Virus/malware scanning is performed in memory, which significantly increases the scanning speed. ScanMail offers flexible, scalable configuration and remote management through the Lotus Notes workspace, as well as Web access of ScanMail databases. ScanMail is fully compatible with Trend Micro Control Manager(TM), Trend Micro centralized management console that lets you consolidate antivirus and content security protection into a cohesive solution. 2. What's New ======================================================================== ScanMail for Lotus Domino represents a significant advancement in antivirus protection and content security for Lotus Domino environments. Native 64-bit platform support and SPN support in version 5.0 make ScanMail more flexible and scalable than ever before. System Requirements ======================================================================== ScanMail for Lotus Domino requires the following hardware and software specifications on the servers where it is installed: - Lotus(TM) Domino(TM) R8.5/R8.5.1/R8.5.2 (64-bit) - Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 on IBM System z (64-bit) - Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 on IBM System z (64-bit) - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 on IBM System z (64-bit) - Any processor that supports Linux on IBM System z - 1-GB Memory - 500-MB available disk space for program files, 100-MB available disk space on each partition, 400-MB available disk space for /tmp folder - Internet access (for components download) 5. Installation ======================================================================== Refer to the Administrator's Guide for detailed installation information. 5.1 Using Trend Micro Control Manager to Manage ScanMail ===================================================================== To manage ScanMail from a Control Manager management console, you must have one of the following releases applied on the Control Manager server: - Control Manager 5.0, GM build with Patch 6 plus Hot Fix 2005 - Control Manager 5.5, GM build with Hot Fix 1273 6. Post-Installation Configuration ======================================================================== After successfully installing ScanMail, Trend Micro recommends performing the following post-installation configuration steps. 6.1 Register and Activate ScanMail ===================================================================== Note: Skip this step if you activated ScanMail during installation. After you have successfully installed ScanMail, check the license status and expiration date on the Configuration Database, click Administration > License Information. If the status is not activated or is expired, obtain an Activation Code and then perform the following: 1. Open the ScanMail Configuration Database. 2. Click Administration > Product License. 3. Create a license profile. 4. Delete the old license profile. Refer to the Registering and Activating ScanMail topic in the Administrator's Guide or Help Database for details. 6.2 Start/Restart the Domino Server ===================================================================== Start/Restart the Domino server to load ScanMail real-time scan task. 6.3 Test Installation with EICAR ===================================================================== Trend Micro recommends testing ScanMail and confirming that it works by using the EICAR test file. To test the ScanMail installation with EICAR: 1. Open an ASCII text file and copy the following 68-character string to it. X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* 2. Save the file as eicar_test.com to a temporary directory and close it. 3. Attach eicar_test.com to an email message and send it to yourself or a test mailbox. 4. Check the virus log in the ScanMail Log Database or the notification sent to the administrator via email message (if email Notification is also configured and enabled). 6.4 Update Components Manually ===================================================================== Use the Configuration Database to perform manual update of antivirus and content security components. To update components manually: 1. Open the ScanMail Configuration Database. 2. On the left menu, click Actions > Manual Update. 3. Click Edit on the top menu to enable editing. 4. Click the Components tab, and select the component(s) you want to update. 5. Click the Source tab, and select the Update Source. 6. If your network uses a proxy server to access the Internet, click the Proxy Settings tab and configure your network proxy settings. 7. Define the update notification. 8. Click Save on the top menu to save the manual component update settings. 9. Click Update Now on the top menu to start the component update. 6.5 Scan Databases Manually ===================================================================== Use the Configuration Database to perform manual database scanning. To scan databases manually: 1. Open the ScanMail Configuration Database. 2. On the left menu, click Actions > Manual Scan. 3. Click Edit on the top menu to enable editing. 4. Click the General tab and select 'Enable incremental scan'. 5. Type the number of minutes in the 'Duration of scan' field. 6. Click the 'Databases to scan' tab and specify the database(s) you want to scan in 'Database(s) to scan' section: - All databases: ScanMail scans all databases stored on the Domino server. - Scan selected databases only: ScanMail scans specific database(s) based on the directory and database list. - Exclude selected databases from scanning: ScanMail skips scanning of specified database(s). Click Add, Remove, or Remove All to manipulate the database(s) in the list. 7. Click the Scan Options tab and configure the following scan options: - Virus Scan - Scan Restrictions - Script Filter 8. Click the 'Notification Template' tab and define the notification template. 9. Click Save on the top menu to save the database scan settings. 10. Click Scan Now on the top menu to start the scan. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== 7.1 Certain agents require adequate rights to run when initiated by ScanMail databases. ===================================================================== If the ID used to sign ScanMail databases has insufficient rights to run restricted Lotus/Java agent, the following agents will not run: Agents ScanMail Databases ------ ------------------ CleanExpiredOPP smconf.nsf AutoDeployUpdateComponents smency.nsf Delete log files (Auto) smvlog.nsf Delete log files (Auto) smquar.nsf You must modify the server document to provide adequate rights to run an agent. To provide adequate rights to run an Agent: 1. Use the Lotus Administrator to open the server document. 2. On the server document, click the Security tab. 3. Add the corresponding user/server from the "Run unrestricted Lotus/Java agent" option. 8.
