Before you begin

Ensure that at least one device is prepared and available on the target machine before you begin this process.

Procedure

  1. Go to Inventory.
  2. Use one of the following methods to select the machine that has unencrypted devices:
    • Click the name of the machine that has unencrypted devices.
      This opens the Edit Computers screen.
    • Select the machine that has unencrypted devices and click Encrypt
      This opens the Encrypting Device(s) screen.
  3. Select the devices for encryption.
    If this step was performed from the Edit Computers screen, the Encrypting Device(s) screen appears.
  4. Configure the following as necessary:
    Option Description
    Existing Data
    Preserve: Use this option to retain all data while encrypting. This is also known as in-place encryption.
    Erase: Use this option to delete all data while encrypting. This is also known as format-erasing encryption.
    File System
    While Existing Data is set to Erase, use these options to determine which file system to format the volume into. The options available depend on the operating system of the computer.
    • Linux operating systems: EXT3, EXT4, and XFS
    • Windows operating systems: FAT32 and NTFS
    Mount Point
    While Existing Data is set to Erase, type in the mount point to set the device to.
  5. Click Encrypt.
    The SecureCloud Agent uses the encryption key provided by the Key Management Server to encrypt the devices attached to this machine.
