Trend Micro OfficeScan is a centrally managed software, protecting desktops
and notebook computers from security risks. OfficeScan protects your organization’s
networked computers from viruses/malware and malicious code, including
file viruses, macro viruses, and malicious Java
The OfficeScan client provides security risk protection and reports events to, and gets updates from, the OfficeScan server. The OfficeScan server hosts the Web console, downloads updates from an update source (such as the Trend Micro ActiveUpdate server), and initiates clients to update components.
There are two types of OfficeScan clients:
Normal clients maintain a continuous connection with the OfficeScan server.
Roaming clients are isolated from, and therefore cannot communicate with, the OfficeScan server. Users with roaming privilege may enable roaming mode when OfficeScan server intervention (such as server-initiated scanning) prevents them from fulfilling a task, such as when doing a presentation. Although communication with the server is lost, roaming clients with Internet connection can still update components if configured to get updates from an Update Agent (an OfficeScan client designated as an update source) or the Trend Micro ActiveUpdate server.
