Tuning I/O Performance

Because disk operations typically take three or more times as long as memory operations, and because scanning for Internet threats and Web access monitoring can be disk intensive, optimizing disk I/O is critical to performance tuning.

The following factors can affect the number of IWSVA-related disk operations per transaction, and thus performance:

  1. Use the least I/O intensive configuration

  2. Use operational modes that minimize disk I/O

  3. Maximize amount of memory-based operations

  4. Reduce or prevent swapping
