Configuring the Notification SMTP Server Parent topic

TippingPoint Advanced Threat Protection for Email uses the SMTP server settings to send alert notifications.
For details about processing SMTP traffic, see Mail Settings.

Procedure

  1. Go to AdministrationSystem SettingsSMTP.
  2. Type the Sender email address.
  3. Specify the SMTP server settings.
    Option
    Description
    Internal postfix server
    Select this option to use the postfix server embedded in TippingPoint Advanced Threat Protection for Email as an SMTP server.

    Internal postfix is not available when operating in BCC mode and SPAN/TAP mode.
    External SMTP server
    Select this option to specify a standalone SMTP server, such as Microsoft Exchange.
    Server address
    Type the external SMTP server host name, IPv4 address or IPv6 address.
    Port
    Type the external SMTP server port number.
    Connection security
    Select a security protocol if required for the connection.
    SMTP server requires authentication
    Select this option if connection to the SMTP server requires authentication.

    • Make sure that you configure the user name and password correctly. An external SMTP server may refuse connection from TippingPoint Advanced Threat Protection for Email after the maximum number of unsuccessful authentication attempts has been reached.
    • Clicking Test Connection checks the connection from TippingPoint Advanced Threat Protection for Email to the external SMTP server, but does not verify SMTP server authentication.
    User name
    Type the user name used for authentication.

    This option is only available if SMTP server requires authentication is selected.
    Password
    Type the password used for authentication.

    This option is only available if SMTP server requires authentication is selected.
  4. Click Save.
  5. (Optional) To test the connection to the external SMTP server, do the following:
    1. Click Test Connection.
    2. Type the recipient email address.
    3. Click OK.
