System Requirements ======================================================================== Install IM Security on a Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise server, that is running Live Communications Server (LCS) 2003 Home server, LCS 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition (Front-end), or LCS 2005 with Service Pack (SP1) Standard or Enterprise Edition. Other requirements are: - PC with an Intel Pentium 550-MHz or faster processor - 512MB RAM - 200MB disk space for program files - Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 or Apache Web server 2.0 - Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape 7.2 - Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) version 1.4.1_02 or the latest Microsoft JVM Note: For more information about Microsoft JVM, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/. Refer to the IM Security Getting Started Guide for messaging clients and recommended system requirements. 5. Installation ======================================================================== This section explains key steps for installing the software. Refer to the Getting Started Guide for detailed information such as deployment considerations and pre-installation tasks. 1) Setup automatically installs RTC Client API 2.1 and MSDE 2000 IM Security instance. Note: Setup skips this step if you are upgrading from previous IM Security build or if you have not removed these programs from previous IM Security installation. 2) Set the product and database installation folder. 3) Configure the Web server and proxy server settings. 4) Activate the product and set World Virus Tracking participation. 5) Set administrator and notification accounts. 6. Post-Installation Configuration ======================================================================== Trend Micro recommends performing the following tasks after installing IM Security: - Prepare other antivirus applications running on the IM Security server by excluding IM Security's quarantine, backup, and temp directories. For example, if you have Trend Micro(TM) ServerProtect(TM) running, exclude the IM Security archive, backup, download, and quarantine directories from its real-time, manual, or scheduled scanning. Refer to your server-based antivirus product's documentation for instructions on how to configure the exclusion list. - Verify successful installation by testing EICAR through a file transfer session. - Update components manually to ensure the latest antivirus and content protection. Note: The Getting Started Guide has the complete post-installation instructions. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== Here are the known issues in this release: 1) Files being transferred are not scanned if IM Security services are stopped. ===================================================================== If IM Security services are stopped when the sender is initiating a file transfer session to intended recipient(s), file is not scanned and will be delivered to intended recipients. Such file may harbor viruses or other threats, which can result to a virus outbreak. Restart the IM Security server or its services during holidays or off-peak hours to avoid this scenario. 2) IM Security performance counters are missing from the Performance Monitor > Object list. ===================================================================== When using a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)-based client to remotely manage an IM Security server, the performance counters for the product are missing. 3) The "Cancel instant message transfer" action prevents archiving of messages to the LCS Archiving Server. ===================================================================== If Cancel transfer is selected for instant messages matching a content filter rule, IM Security will not deliver the message to intended recipient. Consequently, this action prevents the message from being archived to the LCS Archive Server. 4) Removing the IM Security MSDE 2000 instance before the IM Security program prevents the latter from being uninstalled successfully. ===================================================================== Do not uninstall MSDE 2000 nor RTC API Client 2.1 if IM Security is still installed. Uninstalling IM Security will automatically remove these programs. 5) IM Security does not support Access Proxy server and other LCS server roles. ===================================================================== IM Security can only be installed on LCS 2003 Home server and LCS 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition (Front-end). Other LCS server roles are not currently supported. Please refer to the Getting Started Guide for detailed system requirements. 6) Unwanted keywords are still delivered to intended recipients. ===================================================================== If a message or file matches two or more content filtering rules, IM Security will apply the action set by the rule with the highest priority. If the rule with the highest priority set the Deliver action, unwanted keywords will still be delivered to intended recipients. Trend Micro recommends giving higher priority to rules with the most restrictive action (for example, Replace entire content). 7) Notifications or files cleaned by IM Security cannot be delivered. ===================================================================== IM Security uses the agent notification account (IMS_) to send notifications and cleaned files. If the account is blocked in Windows Messenger, IM Security will not be able to send notifications or cleaned files to intended recipients. To prevent this issue from happening, do not block the IM Security agent notification account from Windows Messenger. 8) PDF/HTML reports issues ===================================================================== 8.1) PDF reports cannot be opened nor read. If the following settings are enabled, PDF reports cannot be displayed. - HTTPS management console through Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) - Internet Explorer > Options > Advanced > "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" As a workaround, disable “Do not save encrypted pages to disk”. 8.2) HTML reports cannot be open directly when sent as email attachments. If the "Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration" Windows component is installed, reports sent as email attachments cannot be opened directly from the email. As a workaround, uninstall “Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration” or save the attached *.MHT file to a folder on your computer before opening the report. 9) Certain files are blocked even if IM Security file blocking rules are disabled. ===================================================================== By default, Windows Messenger 5.1 blocks the following file extensions: ade, adp, app, asp, bas, bat, cer, chm, cmd, com, cp, crt, csh, exe, fxp, hlp, hta, inf, ins, isp, its, js, jse, ksh, lnk, mad, maf, mag, mam, maq, mar, mas, mat, mau, mav, maw, mda, mdb, mde, mdt, mdw, mdz, msc, msi, msp, mst, ops, pcd, pif, prf, prg, pst, reg, scf, scr, sct, shb, shs, tmp, ur, vb, vbe, vbs, vsd, vsmacros, vss, vst, vsw, ws, wsc, wsf, wsh Please refer to the Windows Messenger documentation for more information. 10) Live Communications Server Snap-in generates an error when trying to stop or restart LCS service. ===================================================================== In a Live Communications Server 2003 deployment, starting, restarting, or stopping the LCS service through the LCS Snap-in generates the following errors: 'Live Communications Server Snap-in failed to start one or more dependent services. For more information see Event Viewer...' 'Live Communications Server Snap-in failed to stop one or more dependent services. For more information see Event Viewer...' These errors do not prevent IM Security services from starting or stopping. Click OK, and then try starting, restarting, or stopping the LCS service. The error message no longer appears. Start, restart, or stop the LCS service through the Windows Services panel to prevent this issue from happening. 11) Some help content cannot be displayed when using Netscape Navigator. ===================================================================== The IM Security main online help and context-sensitive help are using JavaScript codes. Some JavaScript codes are not compatible with Netscape Navigator. This situation prevents the help content from being displayed and generates an error similar to the following: 'arrayofDivs has no properties' This issue does not happen when using Internet Explorer. 8.
